Man killed by falling tree in Pine Township

The Porter County Coroner’s office has positively identified the man who was killed when a tree fell on him off Furnessville Road in Pine Township Wednesday.

Marco Katic, 65, of Michigan City, died as a result of blunt force trauma to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner’s office.

The Porter County Sheriff’s office said officers were originally called to the 200 block of Furnessville Road at 1:55 p.m.

The man who called 911 told police that three men came to him asking him for help. He said he saw the man with his head pinned underneath a tree, the sheriff’s report said.

The four men tried unsuccessfully to lift the tree up, police said. The three men left before emergency personnel arrived.
