A man died during a head-on crash Wednesday in Little Rock Township in Kendall County, officials said.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1:41 p.m. Wednesday on Galena Road west of Clark Road in Little Rock Township, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle traveling westbound on Galena Road attempted to pass another westbound vehicle and struck a vehicle traveling eastbound on Galena, the release said.

The 49-year-old male driver, who was the sole occupant of the passing vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The identity of the man who died is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to the release.

The occupants of the other vehicle, a 38-year-old woman and two children, were transported to a local hospital with significant injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, according to the press release.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available, officials said in the release.

The roadway was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the on-scene investigation was conducted, according to officials.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Plano Police Department, Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District, Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District and the Kendall County Coroner’s Office, the release said.
