The police there were responding to a call for service when they identified the man and determined that there was a warrant for his arrest in Highland Park.
Highland Park police had previously identified the man as a suspect in the July 20 shooting. The man, whose identity has not been released, will remain in jail in Indiana on local charges until he can be extradited to Illinois, Highland Park officials said.
The man is one of two people identified as possible suspects in the shooting in the 300 block of Walker Avenue. Police responding to reports of a shooting found a victim and brought him to a hospital with serious injuries.
The incident prompted police to issue a shelter-in-place order in the neighborhood around the shooting until it was determined that the suspects were no longer in the area.
