Crown Point Police are investigating a Saturday night crash involving a motorcyclist and a pedestrian that killed a 78-year-old man.
The pedestrian — Thomas Novotny, 78, of Crown Point — suffered blunt force trauma to his head and was pronounced dead by Franciscan Health Crown Point ICU physicians at 9:56 a.m. Sunday, according to a release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Around 10:02 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash with serious bodily injury at the intersection of Main Street and Las Olas Drive, according to a news release.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Main Street when it struck Novotny, who was crossing South Main Street at the intersection of Las Olas Drive, the released stated.
Police said that the driver of the motorcycle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The South Lake County Crash Reconstruction Team assisted with the investigation.
