Geneva resident Brandon Burggraf was the winner of the Naperville Men’s Amateur Championship with a 2-under-par score of 142.

More than 150 golfers competed in the July 18-19 tournament at Naperbrook and Springbrook golf courses as part of Naperville Park District’s Brooks Tournament Series. The Men’s Amateur Championship featured a 36-hole event with 18 holes played at each course.

Amateur male golfers had to be 18 or older with an official U.S. Golf Association handicap, a news release said. Players were divided into six flights based on their handicap.

Other winners based on their handicap were Matthew Ogilive, of Oswego; Kam Hussain, of Plainfield; Steve Stone, of Bolingbrook; and Eddie Ricketts and Seshadri Sundaram, both of Naperville.

Historian to discuss Declaration of Independence

Historian Joyce Haworth will explore the Declaration of Independence during a program at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles.

In the presentation, Haworth, who holds a master’s degree from the University of Chicago, will examine the Declaration of Independence phrase by phrase, revealing its historical context, meaning and significance, according to a press release about the event.

Antique Tool Show planned at Garfield Farm Museum

Members of the Early American Industries Association and the Mid-West Tools Collectors Association will hold their annual Antique Tool Show and Sale at the Garfield Farm Museum in La Fox from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2.

The event is open to the public. Typically, over 30 different collectors will have their tools on display and for sale at the event, according to a press release about the show.

Tours of the 1846 teamster inn and tavern at Garfield Farm will begin at 10 a.m. and continue after the show until 4 p.m., the release said.

Admission for adults is $8 and $3 for children 12 years old and under, the release said.

Garfield Farm Museum is a historically intact former prairie farmstead and teamster inn being restored by volunteers as a 1840s working farm, officials said. The museum is located five miles west of Geneva off of Route 38 on Garfield Road in La Fox.
