
SOUTH ELGIN LIBRARY BRANCH MARKS 10 YEARS
The South Elgin branch of the Gail Borden Public Library will host a 10th anniversary party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25.
The celebration will include a storytime, music, snacks, beverages, crafts and a balloon artist, according to the library’s website.
Gail Borden Public Library District purchased the building at 127 S. McLean Blvd. in 2015, and the branch opened in July 2016. In June 2025, the branch unveiled a renovation project that took almost a year to complete and nearly tripled the library’s space.
The project enlarged the children’s area and a meeting room, added more study and multipurpose rooms, created a baby garden, added more reading material and upgraded technology.

FOREVER HOME DOG RESCUE FUNDRAISER ON JULY 25
South Elgin-based Forever Home Dog Rescue will hold a fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Rosie O’Hare’s Public House, 702 Water St., East Dundee.
The event will feature a gift basket raffle, wine pull and gift card board, according to a social media post. Singer-guitarist John Babin will perform from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Representatives from Advocate Health and the Healthcare Solutions Team will present “Medicare 101: Understanding Your Medicare Options” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 27, at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.
With the goals of simplifying and better understanding the application process, the free seminar will cover the various parts of Medicare, Advantage plans, prescription coverage and mistakes to avoid when enrolling, according to the library’s website.

CONVERSATION WITH HUMAN CONNECTION EXPERT
The Gail Borden Public Library will offer a virtual conversation with psychologist and professor Dr. Marisa Franco, author of “Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make — and Keep — Friends,” from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 28.
Franco, a professor at the University of Maryland and contributor to Psychology Today magazine, will talk about making and keeping friends, according to the library’s website. She also will discuss research on ways to build the number and quality of friendships in your life.

FAMILY SERVICE ASSOCIATION HOLDING FUNDRAISER
Family Service Association of Greater Elgin will host a fundraiser celebrating its 95th year from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 31, at The Haight, 166 Symphony Way, Elgin.
The night will include appetizers and entertainment provided by dueling pianos, with guests encouraged to dress in clothing from their favorite decade, according to the nonprofit’s website. Indoor and outdoor activities are being planned.
