A 31-year-old Yorkville woman has been charged with first-degree murder following what police are calling a domestic-related incident in the early hours of Saturday, according to the Yorkville Police Department.
At around 1:36 a.m. Saturday, Yorkville police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Hydraulic Street in Yorkville after Lindsy N. Kendrick, 31, called 911 to report that a person inside the home had been shot, a news release from the Yorkville Police Department said.
Upon arrival, responding officers found a man just inside the home with an apparent gunshot wound, police said.
Officers began lifesaving measures until Bristol Kendall EMS arrived, and the man was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora where he was later pronounced dead, according to the police department.
Kendrick was the only remaining occupant of the home when officers arrived, the police department news release said, and she was taken into custody without incident.
The investigation indicates that the man sustained a single gunshot wound, the news release said, and preliminary examination by the Kane County Coroner’s Office indicated fatal injuries consistent with a gunshot wound as the likely cause of death.
An autopsy was conducted on Sunday, according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office. The office identified the man who died as 28-year-old Daevin Wlodek.
Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a national forensic laboratory for analysis, per a news release from the Coroner’s Office. The coroner, along with the Yorkville Police Department, are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Wlodek’s death, specifically the cause and manner of death, officials said.
Following the preliminary investigation, Kendrick was taken to the Kendall County jail and charged with six counts of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the Yorkville Police Department. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues and additional evidence is obtained, officials said.
Kendrick was set to appear in Kendall County court on Monday for a pretrial detention hearing, per the police department. She was listed as in custody as of Monday afternoon, according to detainee records from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing, the news release from the police department said. The Yorkville Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force, Oswego Police Department, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Plano Police Department, Montgomery Police Department, Illinois State Police and Kane County Coroner’s Office, officials said.
