A 38-year-old man was fatally wounded Friday night when an argument turned into a fight and a 22-year-old woman was stabbed in the Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., the man and the woman were inside a residence in the 400 block of West Marquette Road when an argument turned into a fight, police said. The man pulled out a sharp object and injured the woman who suffered lacerations to her stomach. Another woman inside the residence saw the fight, and pulled out a weapon and opened fired toward the man, striking him to the chest, police said.

The man was taken in serious condition to UChicago Medicine where he was later pronounced dead. The 22-year-old woman also was taken to the same hospital where she was listed in good condition, police said.

A firearm was recovered from the scene. Charges were pending as detectives investigate.
