PADS OF ELGIN RECEIVES $20,000 TRUST GRANT
State Treasurer Michael Frerichs announced this week that PADS of Elgin is one of 10 small nonprofits across Illinois to receive a grant from the Charitable Trust Stabilization Fund.
“We recognize that people are faced with higher housing costs and grocery prices while the federal government is abandoning its responsibilities,” Frerichs said at a news conference in Chicago, according to a news release. “We are proud to team up with these nonprofit organizations that strengthen their communities by diligently working to improve the lives of Illinoisans in need.”
Seventy-five organizations applied for the grants, which were awarded to nonprofits that provide housing services and food programs, according to the release. An independent 11-member committee selected the grant recipients that will receive a portion of the $195,000 available.
The $20,000 awarded to PADS of Elgin was the maximum amount granted.
The Charitable Trust Stabilization Fund assists nonprofits that have annual budgets of $1 million or less and at least one full-time employee. Fund money comes from the fees nonprofit corporations pay when filing annual reports with the Illinois secretary of state’s office.

“‘Evita’ is my all-time favorite musical,” production co-director Marc Beth said in a news release. “My dad bought me the original Broadway double album when I was a teen, and it was then that I realized that musicals could sound like exciting rock ‘n’ roll mixed with amazing ballads and Latin dance.”
