President Donald Trump has endorsed Republican candidate Barb Regnitz for Indiana’s First Congressional District.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said Regnitz is a successful businesswoman, software engineer, civic leader and “prior to becoming a distinguished Porter County Commissioner, Barb is a proven leader who has dedicated her life to serving her community.”

Trump continued to criticize U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan, D-Highland, who is seeking reelection, writing that Mrvan opposed steel tariffs, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime and no tax on Social Security. Trump continued to state that Mrvan wants to increase taxes and open borders.
Congress has the constitutional authority to place tariffs, Mrvan previously said. The Trump administration’s tariffs have been burdening farmers, Mrvan previously said, which has translated into an increase in the cost of food in grocery stores.
Mrvan previously said he is opposed to open borders and supports E-Verify for federal contractors. After the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota, Mrvan said he has voted to withhold funding for ICE until reforms are put in place.
“On the other hand, Barb Regnitz will fight hard to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Brave Military/Veterans, Ensure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, Advance Election Integrity, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump wrote. “Barb Regnitz has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Indiana’s 1st Congressional District – SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
Regnitz, who will complete her four-year term representing Center District on the Board of Commissioners at the end of the year, said in a statement that she was “incredibly honored” to be endorsed by Trump.
“His leadership demonstrates the importance of sending people to Washington who are willing to challenge the status quo and deliver real results for the American people – not career politicians like my opponent,” Regnitz said.
In Indiana, residents are “tired of politicians who say one thing in Indiana and another in Washington,” Regnitz said. She criticized Mrvan for voting for “failed policies that have made life more expensive and ignored common sense.”
“I am running for Congress to fight for lower costs, stronger manufacturing, safer communities, and a government that puts the American people first,” Regnitz said.
Mrvan said in a statement that it was not surprising that Regnitz “sought and received” an endorsement from Trump. But Mrvan said it was surprising that while hundreds of Northwest Indiana steelworkers are locked out by BP, Trump hasn’t called on the company to end the lockout.
“Instead, he has found time to endorse the Republican nominee and remain silent as American workers stand up against an international corporation whose actions are jeopardizing our public safety and the strength of our regional economy,” Mrvan said.

The upcoming election in November is about a candidate who will fight for Hoosiers in Indiana’s First Congressional District, Mrvan said.
