Two men were shot and injured on Aurora’s East Side Saturday night, with no arrests made yet in connection with the incident, according to the Aurora Police Department.
At around 10:55 p.m. Saturday, Aurora police officers responded to the area of Jackson Place and Anderson Street after ShotSpotter alerts detected multiple rounds of gunfire, the police department said in a news release.
Responding officers found two Aurora men, 19 and 20, with gunshot wounds, according to the police department.
Both men were taken by Aurora Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital, the release said. The 20-year-old was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the 19-year-old was later taken to another hospital for additional treatment and is in critical but stable condition, according to the release.
There were no updates on their conditions as of Tuesday morning, according to a police department spokesman.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and are investigating Saturday’s incident, the news release said. Evidence technicians also processed the scene and recovered multiple shell casings and other evidence in the area, according to police.
Investigators determined that nearby Waldo Middle School was struck by gunfire during the incident, the police department said, but no one was inside the school at the time.
Preliminary information indicates that the men were attending a gathering at a nearby residence when they were struck by gunfire, per the news release. It’s believed at this point that the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community, police said.
No arrests have been made at this point in connection with the shooting on Saturday, according to the police department, but detectives have conducted neighborhood canvasses and are continuing to follow up on leads. The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
