A 28-year-old Country Club Hills woman has been charged with residential burglary after a barricade incident Saturday morning at a home on Aurora’s West Side, according to the Aurora Police Department.
At around 9:14 a.m. Saturday, Aurora police officers responded to the 100 block of South Edgelawn Drive for a report of a residential burglary after a neighbor reported seeing a suspicious person on the property, a news release from the Aurora Police Department said.
Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of forced entry and encountered a woman inside the home, according to the police department. The woman refused to come out, and officers secured the area while members of the department’s Crisis Negotiations Team and Special Response Team responded to the scene, officials said.
Officers ultimately took the woman — who was identified as Kendra Presley, 28, of Country Club Hills — into custody following more than an hour of negotiations, the police department said. Following the incident, she was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, police said.
No other people were inside the home, and there were no injuries to officers or members of the public during the incident, according to the department.
Presley was ultimately charged with residential burglary and theft of property more than $500 but not exceeding $10,000 – both felonies – as well as misdemeanor charges of criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to a residence, the news release from the police department said.
She is next set to appear in court on July 15, Kane County circuit court records show.
The Aurora Police Department is asking anyone with information related to the incident to call the department’s Investigations Division at 630-256-5500.
