The city of Aurora and RiverEdge Park have added two more free World Cup viewing parties at the park in downtown Aurora, set for the Mexico-England match on Sunday, July 5, and the U.S.-Belgium match on Monday, July 6.
Fans are invited to “bring blankets and bag chairs” to watch the World Cup knockout round action live on big screens, according to RiverEdge Park officials.
There are no permanent seats in the park, officials noted.
For the Mexico-England match on Sunday, gates will open at RiverEdge Park, 360 N. Broadway, at 5 p.m., with kickoff at 7 p.m., according to a press release about the watch parties.
For the U.S-Belgium match on Monday, gates will open at 5 p.m., with kickoff at 7 p.m.
More than 7,500 people attended the viewing party for the Mexico vs. Ecuador match on June 30, followed by hundreds showing up for the U.S. vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina game on July 1.
RiverEdge Park will also host a free watch party for the World Cup final on Sunday, July 19, the release said. Gates will open at noon, with kickoff at 2 p.m.
During each viewing party, RiverEdge Park beverage pavilions will be open, offering alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase. Food trucks and the park’s concession stand will also be open. Visitors can also bring their own food and water in coolers no larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches, officials said.
There is no limit on the amount of unopened, sealed water bottles that attendees can bring into the park, city officials said. Empty, reusable water bottles are also welcome, with the park offering refill stations near the new restroom building, according to the release.
Entry for the viewing parties will be through Gates 2 and 4 at RiverEdge Park. Gate 2 is located across from the Post Office at 525 N. Broadway and the Aurora Transportation Center North End Parking Lot, officials said. Gate 4 is located at the south end of the park near the pedestrian bridge across the Fox River.
