Tinley Park police officials said they’re investigating scam phone calls after hearing reports that multiple residents have received calls from a person claiming to be with the police department.

The caller threatened residents with arrest for supposedly missing jury duty, police said.

“We want our residents to know that the Tinley Park Police Department will never call residents for missing jury duty, nor will we ever threaten arrest over the phone for doing so,” police Chief Thomas Tilton said Wednesday in a statement.

Tilton said police are looking into the calls as residents report them. He urged residents to report any similar calls to the police department’s nonemergency number at 708-532-9111.

Officials across the south and southwest suburbs have urged residents to be aware of common scam tactics.

The Palos Hills Police Department investigated a phone scam that led to an elderly resident losing $788,000 in January.

A New Lenox resident lost $235,000 to an online scam in November 2025, and police offered advice for avoiding scams.

The Evergreen Park Public Library held a meeting in June aiming to educate seniors on scammer methods that target Medicare cards and durable medical equipment needs.
