A section of Deerpath Road in Lake Forest was closed late Tuesday night into Wednesday following a water main break, city officials said.
The city closed Deerpath between Lake and Mayflower roads at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday after discovering a crack in a water main pipe, according to Lake Forest Public Works Director Michael Thomas.
Water service to some homes on Deerpath and adjacent roads was interrupted for several hours before being restored early Wednesday morning, Thomas said.
Thomas said crews remained on the scene Wednesday morning working to reopen Deerpath, noting the road’s proximity to Forest Park Beach.
“It’s hot and people will want to go to the beach,” he said.
Thomas said he anticipated Deerpath would reopen later Wednesday afternoon. In the meantime, drivers are being detoured around the affected area.
He added that once a temporary repair is completed and Deerpath reopens, crews will need to return to make a permanent repair.
Although water service was temporarily interrupted, the damage was not extensive enough to require a boil order.
