FINAL FIREWORKS FROM FOX FOOTBRIDGE SATURDAY
The final fireworks display to be set off the footbridge over the Fox River between East Dundee and West Dundee will be held after sundown Saturday, July 4, following the Independence Day events taking place from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Depot park, 319 N. River St. in East Dundee.
Activities include a pie-baking contest, kids’ coloring contest, face painting, balloon twisting, and VFW fundraising and card-writing campaigns, according to the village website, www.eastdundee.net/things_to_do/village_community_events/independence_day_event.php.
The fireworks are sponsored by Bandito Barney’s in East Dundee and being held in memory of James McCulla Jr., who died in 2021 at age 54, a social media post said. McCulla was a master pyrotechnician and original creator of the annual St. Patrick’s Day-related fireworks show.
Responding to concerns raised by locals about the noise and debris polluting the river, the East Dundee Village Board in June banned fireworks from being shot off the bridge other than for this year’s show. In the future, the bridge may be used for drone shows and village staff is exploring other locations for fireworks shows.
