A 45-year-old man was critically wounded Saturday morning in the West Ridge neighborhood during an argument, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 8 a.m., the victim was outside in the 6400 block of North Richmond Street when he became involved in an argument with someone known to him. That person pulled out a firearm and opened fire.

The victim suffered multiple wounds to the torso, and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The gunman was placed into police custody, and detectives are investigating.
