WHITING MAN CHARGED IN SHOOTING

A Whiting man was charged Saturday in a Gary shooting.

Michael McPherson, 39, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery, one count of criminal recklessness and one misdemeanor.

He is in custody, held on a $5,000 cash bond.

Gary Police responded at 3:22 p.m. June 18. The victim, 20, shot in the arm, drove himself to a Gary fire station, 761 Clark Road, before paramedics took him to the hospital.

The man was driving home from work and cut off another vehicle in a construction zone near the 400 block of Bridge Street. When he rolled down the window to apologize, the other driver shot him once, an affidavit alleges.

Police traced the other vehicle to McPherson. Officers arrested him on the Ivy Tech campus in East Chicago.

Anyone with more information can call Detective Sean Melendez at 219-881-1209.
