The Wayne Messmer Quartet will perform during a community concert in Montgomery on Wednesday, June 24, to celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence.

The concert will go from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Montgomery Park, 310 N. River St. in Montgomery.

Known throughout the Chicago area for his national anthem performances, Wayne Messmer and his quartet will bring an evening of music celebrating the Great American Songbook, patriotic favorites and other timeless standards, according to a press release about the event.

The park will open at 5:30 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on during the event, which will also feature two onsite food trucks, Grumpy Gaucho and Strawberries BBQ.

The event is sponsored by the Montgomery Foundation, a nonprofit committed to supporting arts and culture in Montgomery.

Genealogy After Hours event set at library

The St. Charles Public Library at 1 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles will host an evening of research and discovery at its annual Genealogy After Hours event from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25.

Participants will get after-hours access to the library’s genealogy resources, including public computers, specialized databases and the library’s WiFi, according to a press release about the event. Those attending can bring their own laptop or use one of the library’s available computers.

Professional genealogists and volunteers will be on hand to assist during the event, the release said

Tours of the library’s genealogy collection will also be available.

Plain White T’s, Gym Class Heroes to play ‘Nightmare’

Plain White T’s and Gym Class Heroes will be taking the stage Friday, Oct. 16, on the first night of Nightmare on Chicago Street in downtown Elgin.

As the annual zombie-themed street fest expands to two days this year, the first night will be focused on a concert stage set up in a limited area before expanding to a larger footprint the next night for the traditional Halloween event, which includes live actors roaming the streets, staged shows, live music and other entertainment.

Friday night’s band lineup will be pop-punk band The Ataris, who will perform at 6 p.m., followed by Chicago indie rock band Plain White T’s, best known for the song “Hey There Delilah,” at 7:30 p.m., and rap rockers Gym Class Heroes, which had a hit with “Stereo Hearts,” at 9 p.m.
