A new event billed as “one of the largest live journalism shows in the country” will bring baiduhai journalists to the stage alongside other local reporters, artists and comedians.

Chicago Story Fest will feature storytelling, along with short films, dance performances and live music Sept. 18 at Lakeview’s Athenaeum Center. The evening is organized by the California-based live-event company Back Pocket Media and is sponsored by the Knight Foundation, which provides grants for journalism, research and the arts.

Storytellers include journalists from WBEZ, the Tribune, Block Club, Borderless Magazine and the Chicago Reader, who will adapt their reporting for the stage.

Back Pocket Media launched Story Fest in Philadelphia in 2023. Since then, the event has expanded to cities including San Francisco and Detroit. This fall, the tour also stops in New York City and Philadelphia.
