A 20-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a vehicle on Touhy Avenue in Skokie on Friday evening, according to the Skokie Police Department.

The motorcyclist has since been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Muhammad Raief Ali of the 2600 block of West Arthur Street, Chicago.

As of June 15, Ali’s manner and cause of death are currently pending, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Skokie emergency personnel first responded to a report of a collision on the 5000 block of Touhy Avenue between a vehicle and a motorcycle on June 12 at approximately 9:58 p.m., per a police report.

Police determined the crash occurred as the vehicle was traveling westbound on Touhy Avenue and turned left to enter a business on the south side of the road.  Ali traveled eastbound in the center of the traffic lane, according to a news release of the incident.

The two vehicles then collided on the passenger side of the car, per the police report.

The car’s driver remained on the scene following the crash, according to Skokie police. The driver has not yet been identified by police.

Ali was taken to a local hospital via ambulance, but succumbed to his injuries the following morning.

Law enforcement from the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System’s (ILEAS) mutual aid system responded to the scene to assist Skokie police with oncoming traffic following the fatal crash.

The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, Major Crash Assistance Team (NORTAF MCAT) has been activated to further investigate the incident and is assisting the Skokie Police Department with its investigation.
