At around 5:09 p.m. Tuesday, the fire department responded to a reported detached garage fire in the 1500 block of Sandy Lane, a news release from the Aurora Fire Department said. While crews were on their way, updated information indicated that the fire was growing and threatening a nearby home, which prompted the incident to be upgraded to a second alarm.
Arriving firefighters found a fully-involved detached garage fire and confirmed that all occupants had evacuated the nearby home, the news release from the department said. Crews brought the fire under control within eight minutes of the first engine company’s arrival, which prevented significant damage to the nearby residence, officials said.
The home sustained minor heat damage, but the garage was declared a total loss, the fire department said. The fire also damaged the home’s electrical service, which left the residence without power. As a result, the home was deemed uninhabitable, displacing six residents, per the fire department.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, the department said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
