
Gates have been delayed until 8:30 p.m. for Thursday night’s concert by Mumford & Sons at Wrigley Field and the concert will not begin until 10 p.m., due to the threat of severe weather. Opening artists Caamp and Dylan Gossett will not appear.
According to a notice posted Thursday evening on Wrigley’s social media accounts: “Due to the imminent forecasted storm, gates for tonight’s show @officialwrigleyfield have been delayed to 8:30PM. The show will begin at 10:00PM and unfortunately as a result, @dylangossett and @caamp will no longer perform their scheduled sets. Any further updates will be shared here as soon as we have them. We massively appreciate your patience and thank our crew and everyone at Wrigley for their continued hard work in order to deliver a show for us all tonight.”
Multiple tornadoes rip through Illinois and Indiana: ‘It’s just, it’s just gone’
The notice followed an earlier post that gates had been delayed.
A tornado watch by the National Weather Service was expanded Thursday afternoon to include parts of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. The watch, which is set to expire at 9 p.m., is in effect for 51 counties across Illinois, including Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will.
As reported in the Tribune, weather officials warn that severe storms through the afternoon and early evening could likely bring several tornadoes, scattered hail up to the size of a tennis ball and widespread gusts of up to 80 mph.
Additionally, a concert by Jimmy Eat World across town at Huntington Bank Pavilion on Northerly Island has been postponed until Aug. 20. According to an alert from the Live Nation venue: “Tonight’s Jimmy Eat World show with The Get Up Kids & Sunny Day Real Estate has been postponed to August 20. All tickets will remain valid, and the lineup will stay the same for the rescheduled date. More information will be emailed to ticketholders directly.”
Wrigley Field Gates had been slated to open at 5 p.m. for a concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. The concert is part of a tour behind the band’s new album, “Prizefighter.” Mumford & Sons lead singer Marcus Mumford recently told the Tribune that he had been looking forward to playing at Wrigley Field on the tour, having grown up in the U.K. watching Chicago sports teams on television.

Elsewhere for June 11, the 45th Annual Fiestas Patronales Puertorriqueñas did not open Thursday afternoon in Humboldt Park, as scheduled, and will open instead at 3 p.m. Friday.

Mumford & Sons eventually took the stage at about 10:45 p.m. and played until 12:45 a.m. Friday, despite a curfew on the books that requires concerts to end at 11 p.m. According to social media posts from fans who attended and a posted set list, the bands played 24 songs, including collaborations with both Caamp and Dylan Gossett and a four-song encore — concluding with “I Will Wait” and “Conversation With My Son.”
