Nearly half the people running for the Illinois General Assembly representing all or parts of Lake County, countywide offices, the Lake County Board or the North Shore Water Reclamation District in the Nov. 3 general election will be unopposed.
After the Lake County Republican Central Committee slated three candidates for county board seats before the June 1 deadline and no independents filed for any of the state legislative or county offices, the ballot for the Nov. 3 general election is set.
Lake County Clerk Anthony Vega, who is the sole unopposed countywide candidate, said Monday no independent contenders filed with his office to run for any positions on the ballot under his jurisdiction.
Collin Corbett filed to run for governor on May 26, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections website.

Dawn Abernathy, the chair of the Lake County Republican Central Committee, said Monday that three people were added to the ballot for county board seats because of their interest in public service and willingness to make the effort.
“We weren’t going to throw someone in there to be a placeholder,” Abernathy said. “These are important positions and we want someone who we can believe in. We will provide them with everything they need. We plan to let people know what we will do for them.”
Jeffrey C. Issel of Mundelein will now be the GOP candidate for the 10th District Lake County Board seat running against Democrat Nicki Sullivan, also of Mundelein. The winner will replace Jessica Vealitzek, who is not seeking reelection.
In the 16th District, Republican Katherine Rodriguez of Round Lake will now face incumbent Esiah A. Campos of Round Lake Beach. Abernathy said Rodriguez, who is retired, became active in Avon Township politics.
In the 19th county board district, Republican Nicole Ziomek of Long Grove is now running against incumbent Marah Altenberg of Buffalo Grove. Ziomek is an information technology professional.
State Rep. Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, the chair of the Lake County Democrats, said his party had a full slate for state legislative, countywide, county board and reclamation district candidates emerge from the March 17 primary. He is confident the party will expand its majority in the fall.
“With candidates for every office, it shows we are a big tent party whose values reflect those of the majority of people in Lake County,” Didech said. “We plan to continue our success.”
Though all the Individual contests are set, Vega said both governmental entities who want to put referendums on the ballot as well as individuals circulating petitions still have time to get their questions on the ballot. Petitions are due Aug. 2 and resolutions from government bodies by Aug. 17.
Of the 31 contests for the Illinois General Assembly, countywide positions, the Lake County Board seats and the North Shore Water Reclamation District, 16 are unopposed, according to information on the Lake County Clerk’s website.
