A person was shot and killed in Lansing Thursday, leading the Lansing Police Department to issue a shelter in place order for about two hours Thursday while a search for a suspect was underway, according to a village news release.

The shooting took place on the 2700 block of 170th Street, the news release said. A homicide at an address on that block, which is the location of Nippon Paint Automotive Americas, was included in the Cook County medical examiner’s report Friday.

The victim, who was not identified, was listed as having died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The shelter in place order was shared on village social media at about 2 p.m. Thursday, and was lifted at about 4 p.m. Police asked residents to be vigilant and to call 911 if they see someone matching the suspect’s description.

The suspect was described as a male wearing a black do-rag, black hoodie and white surgical mask, and was last seen headed south from 170th Street, according to the news release.

The Lansing Police Department did not respond to a request for additional information Friday.
