Charges against Terrence Smith, of University Park, in connection to a 2023 fatal car crash in Bloom Township were dismissed last week due to Smith’s death, ending the case, according to court documents.
Smith was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI resulting in death after a three-car crash Dec. 16, 2023, at Sauk Trail and Western Avenue in unincorporated Bloom Township near Park Forest.
Walter Smith, 71, of Thornton, died in the crash. Terrence and Walter Smith were not related.
Following the crash, Terrence Smith was found to have a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit, according to a news release from the Cook County sheriff’s office.
Smith’s lawyer, Brandon McRoyal, confirmed that Smith had died and declined to comment further.
