A 74-year-old man was fatally shot inside his home on the city’s South Side Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The victim was inside a residence in the 8100 block of South Laflin Street when he was shot twice just before 1:30 p.m., according to Chicago police.  The shooting took place a block away from Cook Elementary School.

The man was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead. The man was identified as Fred Winsley Jr. of the same address where he was shot, per the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

No arrests had been made as of late Friday afternoon, police said. Calumet Area detectives are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
