An Elburn man has been arrested on charges he sexually assaulted a teen with whom he worked as a volleyball coach in Elgin, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

Arthur D. Weathers, 54, of the 1100 block of Wise Street, was arrested Tuesday night on 11 counts of criminal sexual assault and 14 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, both felonies.

It’s alleged that Weathers was the teen’s volleyball coach at the First Kill volleyball club in Elgin when the sexual incidents occurred between 1999 and 2001, a state’s attorney’s office new release said. The victim was 16 at the time when the abuse started.

Weathers is a forensic chemist employed by the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services, where he has worked since 1998, according to an investigation conducted by the Kane County sheriff’s office, the release said.

The abuse was reported to the sheriff’s office in August 2025.

Weathers has been released from jail pending the outcome of his case. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 15.

Anyone with additional information on the defendant is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 630-444-1103.
