
A second suspect has been charged in relation to the April 21 shooting on the 700 block of Howard Street in Evanston that left a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to an Evanston Police Department news release.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Cajmere T. Lemond, 19, of the 1700 block of Monroe Street, Evanston, with two Class 4 felony counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and one Class 4 felony count of mob action.
Lemond was arrested by Evanston police on May 14 while walking near the 500 block of Custer Avenue, Evanston, after officers developed probable cause to arrest him in connection to the reported shooting, per the news release.
After police located Lemond and attempted to make contact with him, he fled on foot to a neighboring residential area, according to the police report.
Following a “brief foot pursuit,” officers detained Lemond on the 600 block of Hull Terrace and took him into custody without further incident, the release said.
Detectives recovered two loaded firearms from Lemond’s backpack, per the release: a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun and an AA Arms P-9 handgun. Each of the guns had an extended magazine.
One of the recovered firearms in Lemond’s backpack was previously reported stolen from Steubenville, Ohio, according to police.
This is the second arrest made by Evanston police in connection to the April 21 Howard Street shooting.
Police arrested Arthur Mitchell Jr., 18, of the 1800 block of Ashland Avenue, on April 29 following the review of available video, evidence and witness statements collected during a subsequent investigation of the incident.

Mitchell was charged by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office with a Class 4 felony charge of reckless discharge of a firearm and another Class 4 felony charge of aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm.
Mitchell remains in custody, according to Cook County Circuit Court records. His next scheduled court appearance is May 28 at 9 a.m.
According to the news release, Lemond appeared before a judge at the Skokie Courthouse, 5600 Old Orchard Road, on May 15.
During his initial court appearance, Judge Anthony Calabrese ordered Lemond to remain in custody pending a trial. His next scheduled court appearance is June 11, at 9 a.m. at the Skokie Courthouse.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to Evanston Police Commander Ken Carter.
An arrest does not constitute a conviction.
