A fan fell into the visitors bullpen at Rate Field during Wednesday’s Chicago White Sox game against the Kansas City Royals.
The game was paused in the top of the fourth inning as Sox personnel attended to the fan.
“The fan has been transported to a local hospital for additional treatment,” the team said in a statement.
In an update Thursday, the Sox said they reached out to the fan, and his friend was able to share “a positive report.”
“The entire White Sox organization and clubhouse are wishing him a full and speedy recovery,” the team said.
Sox left-hander Noah Schultz was on the mound when play was stopped.
“They were just briefly telling me there was some security thing going on,” he said. “It was unfortunate to hear it was a fan that fell. Hopefully he or she’s doing OK. That’s horrible to hear.”
Royals relievers reportedly moved into a far corner of the bullpen after the fan fell.
“Baseball’s just a game when it comes to that stuff,” Royals reliever Nick Mears told reporters. “Obviously human lives are something different.
“Just creating space for all of the people to come in and try to help him out. Just trying to make sure that he had the best care that he could get in that moment was our priority.”
