as Duneland School superintendent will be to preside over Chesterton High School’s graduation ceremony on June 3.The Duneland School Board on Monday approved an agreement that will end the superintendent’s contract early on June 3, rather than July 1.
Pettit has accepted a new position as superintendent of Hinsdale Township High School District 86, which serves a cluster of suburban communities about 20 miles west of Chicago. Pettit, who led Duneland schools for seven years, said he will start his new job on June 4.
Assistant Superintendent Robert McDermott, who is succeeding Pettit as superintendent, will become the interim superintendent on June 4 until his contract becomes effective July 1.
McDermott announced that the board approved the hiring of Brooke Busse as Duneland’s new director of teaching and learning. She is replacing Donna Biggs, who is moving out of state.
Busse has more than 20 years of experience as a teacher, principal and administrator with the Plymouth Community School Corporation.
“I just want to thank you for this opportunity, and I am so excited to get started,” Busse said. “And so excited to work alongside such talented educators.”
The school board also approved two alternates as part of the $3.595 million contract to refurbish Chesterton High School’s varsity baseball and softball fields.
The varsity fields will get new turf and fencing. The board approved two masonry/stone backstops with netting for the two varsity fields at $110,000 and to spend $180,500 for black vinyl fencing at the tennis complex.
Gough, Inc. will work on the fields after school ends.
