Multiple police agencies had been conducting a surveillance operation at the time due to a string of residential break-ins in North Shore suburbs, according to a Glencoe Public Safety news release.
Law enforcement was able to recover property that had been taken from the home on Lakewood Drive in Glencoe.
Nicolas Bravo-Umanzor, 33, of North Chicago, was charged by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office with residential burglary and possession of burglary tools, both felonies, and resisting a police officer, a misdemeanor, according to the release. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a proffer document that he is a suspect in multiple burglaries in the last month in areas including Lake County, Kane County and Burr Ridge.
Howard Montes-Reyes, 22, of Round Lake Beach, was charged with residential burglary, a felony, and resisting a police officer, a misdemeanor.
Both appeared in Cook County court at the Skokie courthouse on May 4. Bravo-Umazor was ordered detained in custody by Judge Anthony Calabrese, according to court records.
The judge did not detain Montes-Reyes in custody but ordered him to stay away from the home that was burglarized.
Both have their next court date on May 29 in Skokie.
On Friday, Glencoe Public Safety officers and members of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force were conducting surveillance on individuals believed to be involved in a series of residential burglaries.
At about 9:40 p.m., a burglary alarm was triggered at the Lakewood Drive home. Officers responding to the scene found a broken window and began searching for suspects, according to the news release.
Law enforcement agencies uses canine units, a drone and a Cook County Sheriff’s Office helicopter to track one individual who fled through nearby ravines and a wooded area.
A second suspect was taken into custody because the individual had remained in the suspect vehicle, officials said.
Investigators said the suspect who fled through the woods was later picked up by another person in Highland Park who had also been under surveillance.
Law enforcement continued to surveil the suspects as they traveled to a home in North Chicago, where authorities arrested both of them around 4:10 a.m. Saturday and recovered items reported stolen in the burglary, per the news release.
A third individual was detained and later released pending further investigation.
An arrest does not constitute a conviction.
Glencoe Deputy Public Safety Director Andrew Perley said in an interview the suspects are believed to be connected to several North Shore residential burglaries in recent weeks.
This incident follows a March home invasion in Winnetka. A suspect posed as a food delivery driver, and when a resident opened the door, several more suspects entered, according to police and court filings. Suspects ransacked the house and a person was held at gunpoint in a search for cryptocurrency accounts, court filings allege.
Prosecutors have charged seven people connected with that crime, including a popular Chicago rapper.

A separate home invasion also occurred in Northbrook, police said.
Perley said the Glencoe case was not connected to either of the home invasion incidents.
