The Will County sheriff’s office is investigating the death of a 2-month-old infant who was found unresponsive in his unincorporated Plainfield home earlier this week.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the infant as Maverick Rowe and noted the infant died of multiple injuries and ruled his death a homicide on Thursday. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, however, said it has not received word on the cause of death.
“While the Cook County medical examiner’s office may be reporting certain things, the Will County sheriff’s office hasn’t received any official word from their office regarding this case,” said Elizabeth Matthews, public information officer for the agency. “We are thoroughly investigating this criminal matter, but no charges have been filed.”
Will County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 14100 block of Lehigh Drive in unincorporated Plainfield on Tuesday shortly before 6 p.m. to assist paramedics for a call of an unresponsive infant.
The 2-month-old was initially transported to an area hospital and then airlifted in critical condition to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where he later died Tuesday evening, Matthews said.
