A man who allegedly injured two Orland Park police officers after attacking them and resisting arrest was not ordered detained by a Cook County judge Tuesday.

Daniel Schmidt, 26, was charged Monday with felonies of aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated resisting arrest and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, according to court records.

Police were called to a residence on the 8600 Block of 142nd Place at about 6 p.m. Sunday after having previously responded to a domestic disturbance there, according to prosecutors. Before officers arrived, Schmidt allegedly kicked down the front door of the residence, and his family was waiting outside, prosecutors say.

Schmidt allegedly punched one officer in the face after he became angry while speaking to police, prosecutors say.

Schmidt then resisted arrest, leading officers to use a taser to control him, they said. After an officer handcuffed one of his wrists, Schmidt allegedly refused to bring the other arm behind his body and kicked the other officer in the face, prosecutors say.

The officer sustained a bloody nose and lost consciousness, court records state.

The two officers were treated at Northwestern Palos Community Hospital and released.

Schmidt was ordered to comply with GPS monitoring and refrain from possessing a firearm or other dangerous weapon ahead of his next hearing at 9:30 a.m. on May 12, 10220 S. 76th Ave., Bridgeview, court records state.
