Kane County is looking to hire a new ethics advisor to promote transparency and accountability across county government.
The ethics advisor provides guidance to county elected officials and employees on the county’s ethics ordinance, including interpretation of the code of conduct, compliance with ethics rules and conflict of interest issues, a news release from the Kane County Board Office said. The individual in the role also responds to inquiries, conducts ethics training and reviews potential violations or complaints.
The position is open due to the retirement of former judge Grant Wegner, who has served in the role since being appointed in 2012, the news release said.

The role will be appointed by Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog, with the approval of the full board, according to the news release. The individual selected would serve out a three-year term.
To be selected, candidates must have a J.D. or master’s degree in public administration and at least five years of relevant experience in areas like law, public service, law enforcement, academia or clergy, according to the Kane County Board Office. Individuals must also be able to interpret and apply laws and regulations with integrity and maintain confidentiality, according to the release.
Individuals cannot be elected officials or political candidates, hold an appointment to a public board or be employed by the county, the news release said.
