Lenyn Sosa led the Chicago White Sox last season with 22 home runs and 75 RBIs, but consistent at-bats have been tougher to come by this year for the infielder/designated hitter.
The Sox traded Sosa on Monday to the Toronto Blue Jays for minor-league outfielder Jordan Rich and a player to be named or cash considerations.
With Munetaka Murakami at first base, Chase Meidroth at second, Colson Montgomery at shortstop and Miguel Vargas at third, starts in the infield had become limited for Sosa. He made six starts at DH, one at first and one at second this season, posting a .212/.212/.303 slash line (7-for-33) with three doubles and three RBIs in 12 games.
In 2025 he started 85 games at second, 35 at first, 10 at DH and two at third.
Sosa, 26, spent parts of five seasons with the Sox (2022-26), slashing .245/.272/.387 with 37 home runs and 128 RBIs in 315 games.
With the trade, the Sox’s 40-man roster decreases to 39 and the 26-man active roster to 25. They will make a corresponding move before Tuesday’s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays at Rate Field.
Rich, 18, was assigned to the Arizona Complex League White Sox. The Blue Jays selected him in the 17th round of the 2025 draft out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla., and he has not played in a professional game.
