A man has died after being shot multiple times while inside his car stopped at a street intersection in a southwest Chicago suburb Saturday afternoon, according to a preliminary investigation by police.

Oak Forest police responded to a report of shots fired at 167th Street and Cicero Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, the man who had been shot — later identified as 30-year-old Latrell Williams of Alsip — was receiving first aid from an off-duty medical professional.

The Oak Forest Fire Department arrived soon after, according to police, and transported Williams to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation, an unidentified person or persons had pulled next to Williams’ vehicle in the left turn lane, firing several shots at him, wounding him on the left side of his body and then fleeing eastbound on 167th toward I-57.

The investigations division of the Oak Forest Police Department and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
