Chicago Heights police requested assistance from the South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team in investigating a Friday crash that killed two people and sent three juveniles to area hospitals.

Chicago Heights resident Tyra Willingham, 45, was killed in the crash, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The office initially identified the second driver killed but said Monday the driver was now listed as unidentified.

Meaghan Johnson, public relations specialist for the medical examiner’s office, said the Friday identification was based on initial information, but the status was changed pending some other identification techniques, which she said can happen depending on the state of the body.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at Chicago Road and Joe Orr Road, Chicago Heights police said.

Willingham died due to multiple injuries in a motor vehicle crash, the medical examiner’s office said.

David O’Down, communications manager for Commonwealth Edison, said about 870 customers lost power at 4:33 p.m. after one vehicle hit and knocked down an electric pole, which brought down a second pole.

Electricity for a majority of customers was restored within a couple hours but about 20 customers were out of power until 7 a.m. Saturday, said O’Dowd.

Chicago Heights police responded to the crash at 4:30 p.m. Friday and said five vehicles were involved.

Police asked anyone with information on the crash to contact the Police Department at 708-756-6400.

David Ormsby, a Chicago Heights spokesperson, said Monday afternoon police have no additional information or comment.
