A South Washington Avenue house fire in Park Ridge required a multi-fire department response on Wednesday.

The Park Ridge Fire Department responded to a call of a fire in the 1000 block of South Washington Avenue around 2 p.m. and saw smoke coming from the eaves on all four sides of the house, according to a news release. The response was upgraded to a confirmed fire, bringing additional fire companies from neighboring fire departments.

The home was under renovation with construction workers on scene, and they reported no one was in the house, the release said. Park Ridge firefighters immediately started fighting the fire and stretched a hose line through the back door while other crews rapidly searched the house to verify that no one was trapped inside.

Simultaneously, crews went to the roof to ventilate the house. Additional fire companies arrived on scene to assist with fire operations and overhaul. There were no injuries to fire personnel or civilians, officials said.

The fire is classified as accidental. But, while the exact cause remains undetermined, it is suspected to be related to construction work in the home, the release said. Damage to the home and loss of contents are estimated at $250,000.

According to the release, Park Ridge was assisted on scene by fire companies from the Des Plaines, Niles, Norwood Park and Rosemont Fire Departments. Additionally, the Park Ridge fire stations were staffed by mutual aid crews from the Elk Grove Village, Franklin Park, Lincolnwood, and Wheeling Fire Departments.

While Park Ridge firefighters were at the fire, the mutual aid crews, along with other neighboring fire departments, handled five other emergency calls for service, the release said.
