A Lowell man has been charged after allegedly trying to stab a cop outside a smoke shop.
Ethan Meyer, 26, is charged with attempted murder, battery by means of a deadly weapon, intimidation, two counts of resisting law enforcement and one count of disarming a law enforcement officer.
He is in custody, held on a $10,000 cash bond.
Lowell Police arrived around 10 a.m. April 1 to the Puff House, 176 Deanna Drive.
About 15 minutes earlier, Officer Mark Tonevich responded to an alarm call. He checked out the business and left when nothing was amiss, then parked at the Country Lanes bowling alley down the block, an affidavit states.

A witness came to get him when Meyer appeared to be drinking from a champagne bottle in the smoke shop parking lot. The officer later saw him trying to peer through the windows.
When the officer went to ask Meyer what he was doing, Meyer pulled a “kitchen knife,” charges state. Tonevich started backing off, pulling his stun gun. Meyer briefly chased him. The men fought briefly on the ground before other men assisted the officer.
“I’m going to…kill you,” Meyer told the officer.
Police later found the knife 10-15 feet away, charges state. The affidavit states the officer felt a knife against the back of his neck. Neither man was seriously injured.
“He tried to stab me,” Tonevich later told officers.
Meyer declined to talk to police at the scene, saying he was a “federal” agent, the affidavit states.
A court date hasn’t yet been set.
