EAST CHICAGO MAN GETS TIME SERVED AFTER SHOOTING
An East Chicago man got time served Wednesday after allegedly shooting his child’s mother in March 2024, plus stealing a gun from another woman months later.
Jamille Walker, 32, pleaded guilty to domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, and theft, a Level 5 felony, in the gun case.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dismissed several charges, including aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury. They also dismissed charges in a separate cocaine dealing case.
East Chicago Police responded March 11, 2024, around 4:44 a.m. to a residence on the 3400 block of Elm Street for a reported shooting, according to the original charging affidavit.
Walker told the officers to come in, saying he didn’t know what happened. A silver “revolver-type pistol” with a spent bullet cartridge was on the kitchen counter.
The woman was shot in the upper chest and left elbow.

Investigators noted the woman also appeared to lie to protect Walker. She claimed at the hospital she was getting out of a Lyft from a relative’s house when shots were fired.
She then claimed Walker thought she was an “intruder,” the affidavit states.
“Mommy and daddy were fighting,” their daughter, 3, told police.
In the gun theft case, Walker admitted he stole a Smith and Wesson revolver from a Lake Station woman in December 2024.
Deputy Prosecutor Michael Stewart led the case. Defense lawyer Josh Malher represented Walker.

A Hammond man faces charges after he beat a woman and knocked out her tooth.
Jason Dickson, 26, is charged with aggravated battery, criminal confinement, domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, strangulation and domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old.
He is in custody, held on a $7,500 cash bond.
Hammond Police responded around 11 p.m. March 29 to the 400 block of Florence Street.
The woman told officers during an argument, Dickson pushed her into a dresser, choked her and slammed her head into the wall. He slammed her into a bed, breaking the frame and punched her, knocking a tooth out.
When the woman declined to press charges, police said they would do it for her. She “began crying,” according to the affidavit.
Police wrote Dickson abused her frequently in “escalating” incidents since 2017.
