The Kane County Board has given the green light to a list of planned capital projects for fiscal year 2026, totaling a little under $7.2 million in work.
This overall allocation to capital spending for the year was included as part of the county’s fiscal year 2026 budget, which was approved in November.
But the measure approved March 10 indicates how those capital funds are to be spent this year, and notes that these spending plans reflect updated recommendations by the Building Management Department made to the Kane County Board and the board’s Administration Committee about the planned projects for the year.
Included in the approved capital spending are things like fire panel upgrades, kitchen and laundry improvements at the county’s jail, repairs to the new health building and HVAC equipment.
Additionally, because the kitchen and laundry improvement project at the jail came in under budget, the list includes two new projects, the county’s spokesperson confirmed. Those additional projects are for new furniture for one of the county’s buildings and a renovation of the building at 401 Campbell St. near the county courthouse in Geneva, which will in the future serve as a neutral space for families who are going through or already have gone through divorce to drop off and pick up their children.
The county’s list of capital projects is updated periodically throughout the year as projects go on and projected costs change, the county spokesperson said, but the overall amount of capital spending for the year will stay the same.
The affirmative vote on March 10 by the board directs the Building Management Department to begin the planning and procurement process for the capital projects approved for fiscal year 2026. Final approvals from the board, however, will still be needed for the projects.
