Cleland is a master fiddler and executive director of the Irish Music School of Chicago, according to the district’s website. He will perform traditional Irish tunes and share stories behind the music and about the history of Irish music and culture.

‘THE REVOLUTIONISTS’ BEING STAGED AT RAKOW CENTER
Fox River Valley Public Library District will present the Violet Surprise Theatre production of “The Revolutionists” at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Adult Activities Center theater, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
Written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Iris Sowlat, “The Revolutionists” is a comedy that invites audiences to experience the French Revolution from a female perspective, according to the library’s website. The play follows playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen Marie Antoinette and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle as they deal with events happening in 1793 Paris.

BIRDS EXHIBIT AT CREEK BEND CENTER OPENS MARCH 16
An exhibit called “A Day with the Birds” is set to run from Monday, March 16, through Sunday, May 17, at the Creek Bend Nature Center, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles,
This exhibit was put together by the Kauffman Museum at Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas, according to a social media post. It focuses on conservation and citizen science efforts. On opening day, live bird presentations and related activities will be offered.
The free exhibit will be open during the center’s regular hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

ECC PROFESSORS HOLDING EXPERIMENTAL FICTION EVENTS
Elgin Community College English professors Jeff Weisman and Eckhard Gerdes will hold an experimental fiction workshop at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, followed by a talk and reading from selections of their writing at 6 p.m.
The events are free and open to the public, according to a news release. The workshop will be held in Building C, Room 120, and the reading in Building B, Room 181, both on the main Elgin campus.
During the sessions, Gerdes will provide context for what experimental fiction is and how it functions as a literary form and both authors will also discuss how writers challenge and reimagine traditional ideas, assumptions and conventions within the elements of fiction, the release said.
Weisman will share examples of experimental fiction in his book, “Lifers,” and Gerdes will also share excerpts from his book, “The Land of Lost Simulacra.”
