Aaron Rankin, who co-founded social media software firm Sprout Social, sold a seven-bedroom mansion in Fontana, Wisconsin, for $14.3 million last week, according to public documents, the highest-priced Lake Geneva-area sale since last June.

Rankin and his wife, Yeming, sold the home through a land trust to Milwaukee-based Eagles Wings Trust on March 3, according to the documents. They had owned the property since 2019, when they paid $6.95 million for it.

The 10,960-square-foot Fontana mansion had not been publicly listed and real estate agent David Curry represented both the sellers and the buyers. Curry did not respond to a request for comment, although on his website, he wrote that he had “an intelligent and loyal seller” and “a motivated and excited buyer.” He added on his website that the final private asking price for the Fontana mansion was $15 million.

Features in the Fontana mansion, which was built in 2013 and sits on 2.3 acres, include 9 ½ bathrooms, a three-car garage, a boathouse and gardens.

The sale took place less than a year after Rankin and his wife sold a five-bedroom, 9,350-square-foot Nantucket-inspired mansion in Winnetka for $3.9 million. The Rankins initially asked for close to $4.2 million for the Winnetka property, according to listing history posted online by their listing agent, Jena Radnay.

Rankin and his wife now own a large two-story mansion that they had builder Jim Malapanes construct for them, with an estimated construction cost of $4 million, according to a building permit application filed with Winnetka officials in 2021. Through an opaque land trust, the Rankins paid $2.795 million in 2021 for the 1.8-acre property on which that mansion was built.

The Real Deal first reported on the sale of the Fontana mansion, though without identifying the Rankins’ ownership.

The Fontana sale was the highest-priced Lake Geneva-area sale since last June, when Raymond Hott, the former president of a DeKalb wire and cable company, paid $20 million in June to buy a seven-bedroom, 10,565-square-foot mansion from McDonald’s franchisee William McEssy and his wife, Lois.

The Lake Geneva-area sales record remains the $36 million that J. Christopher Reyes paid in 2022 for the late Richard Driehaus’ mansion.
