A 29-year-old woman was fatally wounded and another woman was injured overnight in a drive-by shooting on the Far South Side in the East Side neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Around 1:10 a.m., the victims were standing in a parking lot with a crowd in the 10200 block of South Avenue J when a blue vehicle drove by and someone inside fired multiple shots into the crowd, police said.
The younger woman suffered a wound to the chest and was taken to UChicago Medicine in critical condition but later died from her injuries. A 37-year-old woman suffered a wound to the leg and was taken to the same hospital where she was listed in good condition.
