
No one was struck by gunfire when a Chicago police officer discharged their weapon during a foot chase in the South Chicago neighborhood Thursday afternoon, police said.
Officers were investigating reports of stolen vehicles in the 8100 block of South Merrill Avenue just after 11:30 when, as they approached an occupied stolen car, the driver attempted to flee and struck a Chicago police squad car, authorities said. When one of the suspects, who was armed, tried to escape on foot, one of the officers fired their weapon, according to police. No one was hit.

Police arrested two minors and one adult, whose ages and genders were not immediately available. One minor was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital for a “minor abrasion” on his hand, while two officers were taken to area hospitals, one for minor injuries and another for observation, police said.
The Civilian Office of Accountability was investigating the shooting, alongside the Chicago Police Department’s investigative response team. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days.
