
Gowns For Good selling dresses in Elgin, Hampshire
Gowns For Good will be selling wedding and prom dresses Friday through Sunday, Jan. 30-Feb. 1, at The Haight, 166 Symphony Way, Elgin, and prom dresses Saturday, Feb. 7, at Hampshire High School, 1600 Big Timber Road, Hampshire.
The dresses are deeply discounted designer wear and a portion of the proceeds go to charity.
In Elgin, one-hour shopping time slots are available between 3 and 6 p.m. Jan. 30, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Jan. 31 and 10 a.m. and to 2 p.m. Feb. 1, according to web information for the event.
Groups of up to four people can sign up together. Shoppers should bring a pair of heels and shapewear. Children are not allowed. A portion of the funds raised will be given to charities that serve women in the Elgin area.
One-hour time slots also are available for the Hampshire prom dress sale from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 7. The sale is open to anyone 16 or older. Shoppers should bring a pair of heels and shapewear. Closed Candy Quest donates stock to D300 Food Pantry
The Candy Quest store in West Dundee, which closed in September, has donated its remaining inventory to the D300 Food Pantry in Carpentersville.
Store owners Bill and Michelle Pratt said on social media that they provided about $9,000 worth of candy to the pantry, “giving it a second life and helping families right here in our community. Knowing our candy will bring smiles to others helps us smile a little through the hurt.”
Candy Quest opened in June 2024 at at 738 S. 8th St. Its closure was the result of family health issues and the changing economy, the owners said at the time.
Bird feeder program being offered at Hawthorne Hill
Scott Siers, of Siers Feed & Pet Supply, will present a free program, “Making the Most of Your Bird Feeders,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, 28 Brookside Drive, Elgin.
Siers will discuss new and established bird feeders, offer information on best practices and help resolve issues bird feeder owners may be having, according to a social media post. Feeder types, location and seed mixtures will covered.

Cedar the groundhog is to predict if there will be six more weeks of winter at 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, in the Randall Oaks Zoo, 1180 N. Randall Road, West Dundee.

Zookeepers are also hosting a 1 p.m. groundhog party featuring stories about facts and lore about the animal and songs for Cedar.
“Groundhog Day is one of our favorite traditions at the zoo,” zoo manager Sara Peters said in the release. “Whether you call them groundhogs, woodchucks or whistle pigs, Cedar always steals the show and gives us a fun way to spark curiosity about wildlife in our community.”
