The Aurora Historical Society recently released its Vintage Aurora 2026 calendar, according to a press release from the organization.

The calendar’s theme this year is “Ceremonies, Parades and Celebrations,” which honors the 250th birthday of the United States and the 120th birthday of the Aurora Historical Society, according to the release.

The new calendar includes images depicting events and parades in downtown Aurora. It measures 9½ by 12½ inches and features a full-sized photo for each month, plus a separate cover image and some smaller images, the release said.

The calendar sells for $18.95 plus tax and is available in the Museum Shop at the David L. Pierce Art & History Center, 20 E. Downer Place in downtown Aurora. The center and shop are open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Plano Food Pantry sets Nov. 21 distribution

The free Plano Food Pantry will be distributing food to those in need from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at First Lutheran Church at 200 N. Center St. in Plano, according to a press release about the event.

Those in need can be pick up a box of canned goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, frozen meat, bread, milk, eggs and more at the pantry event, organizers said.

People looking to pick up food should bring their food pantry card, if they have one, the release said. If they don’t have a pantry card, they should bring identification and one will be issued in a couple of minutes, pantry officials said.

Donation site announced for Toys for Tots

The district office of state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, will once again serve as a Toys for Tots donation site this holiday season, according to a press release from the office.

Residents are invited to bring new toys, books and unwrapped gifts to Kifowit’s district office at 1677 Montgomery Road, Suite 116, in Aurora. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 3, the release said.

Kifowit, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, has once again teamed up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to take part in Toys for Tots, which has worked to provide holiday cheer to children in need for over 75 years, the release said.

“I am proud of my continued partnership with Toys for Tots and honored to be able to serve the children and families of the 84th District,” said Kifowit. “Now, more than ever, it is important that we work together to make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors.”

Donations are being accepted at Kifowit’s district office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, through Dec. 3. Kifowit is asking for special consideration for toy donations for children under 18 months old and those 10 to 14 years old as these age groups are often overlooked, according to the release.

Exhibit in Oswego honors veterans

The Little White School Museum’s annual “Remembering our Veterans” special exhibit is running through Nov. 29 at the museum at 72 Polk St. in Oswego.

This is the 21st year the museum has hosted a November exhibit honoring Oswego area military veterans, according to a press release from the museum.

The exhibit continues through Saturday, Nov. 29. Public exhibit hours are 2 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and 4 to 9 p.m. Mondays. The museum is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Admission to the museum and the exhibit is free, but donations are always gratefully accepted, the release said.

The exhibit features numerous uniforms from local military service men and women, along with the exhibit’s annual Wall of Honor, showcasing more than 100 veterans with ties to the Oswego area, and a memorial display honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and community, according to the release.

New additions this year include exhibits highlighting women’s service in the military and during wartime, showcasing military medals awarded to local veterans and several Oswego-related military artifacts newly-donated to the museum’s collections, officials said.

Also on exhibit will be dozens of other items from the museum’s collections including war souvenirs and photographs, each with a direct connection to Oswego area residents who served, from the Civil War through the modern conflicts in the Middle East and Afghanistan, according to the release.
