
Chapel on the Green at 107 W. Center St. in Yorkville will host a veterans tribute ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 9, during which the stories of six veterans will be shared.
At 1 p.m. those attending can view military artifacts and a memorabilia display, with the program of speakers to begin at 2 p.m. Refreshments and a social hour will follow the program, organizers said.
One story that will be told is that of Emil “Bud” Farren, a World War II prisoner of war. The story will be told by his son Jeff and daughter Diane.
While Emil Farren never discussed that time of his life, Jeff Farren spent many years doing research and has decided to tell his dad’s story, event organizers said.
Other speakers at the event will be Chuck Ashley, who served in the Air Force; Wayland Middendorf,
Marines, Army Reserves and Army National Guard; Nancy Judge, Air Force; Denise
Martin, Air Force; and Sherry Reherman Story, Army.
Auction to be held at Waubonsee Community College
Waubonsee Community College invites the public to attend an on-site liquidation auction of auto body and other surplus equipment at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Akerlow Hall on Waubonsee’s Sugar Grove campus.
Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the auction, college officials said.

A selection of surplus items will be available for bidding, with featured equipment starting at 10 a.m., according to a press release about the event. Attendees are also welcome to preview items from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Yorkville Sons of American Legion to hold breakfast fundraiser
The Yorkville Sons of The American Legion will hold its monthly breakfast fundraiser from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Yorkville American Legion, 9054 E. Veterans Parkway in Yorkville.
The buffet will consist of biscuits and gravy, pancakes, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, tomato juice, orange juice, milk, coffee and an omelet station, organizers said.
The cost of the breakfast is $12 for adults 18 to 54 years old, $10 for those 55 years old and older and $8 for those 6 to 17 years old, according to organizers. Those 5 years old and younger get in free.
