
Metea Valley High School to present performances of ‘Macbeth’
Metea Valley Theater will present Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 6-8, at the high school, 1801 N. Eola Road, Aurora.
Tickets are on sale at www.meteavalleytheater.org. Seats are assigned so it’s recommended that tickets be ordered online to ensure seat preference, a news release from the high school said.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. The audience is asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before showtime and enter through doors 1 or 14.
Prison reform focus of Aurora town hall
State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, and state Rep. Jed Davis, R-Yorkville, will host a town hall discussion on the need for prison policy reform at the Illinois Department of Corrections from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Waubonsee Community College’s downtown Aurora campus at 18 S. River St.
The discussion will include issues such as living conditions in state prisons, availability of programming, volunteer access, the increasing use of lockdowns and the impact of lengthy sentences, according to a press release about the event.
“Prison policy is often overlooked, but it is important that we seek solutions to the challenges that exist within our state’s prison system,” Hernandez said in the release.
Batavia Lions Club event to aid charity
The Batavia Lions Club invites the community to take part in the ninth annual Underwear Party, benefiting the United Way Adopt-a-Family Program.
The event will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20, beginning at 6 p.m. at Pal Joey’s Restaurant, 31 N. River St. in Batavia, according to a press release.
The event will feature raffle baskets, special appetizers and holiday-themed drinks.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a new package of socks or underwear for children up to age 18 or contribute a $10 entrance fee, the release said. All donations collected will go directly to the United Way’s Adopt-a-Family program, helping provide essential clothing items for children this holiday season, event organizers said.

Bike the Burbs planned at Waubonsee
Waubonsee Community College will host its third annual Bike the Burbs community engagement event at its Sugar Grove campus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
This year’s free family-friendly event will feature the official ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the college’s brand-new Tennis and Pickleball Complex, according to a press release from the college. All members of the community are welcome to attend, college officials said
Attendees will be among the first to play on the new courts, organizers said. Throughout the event, there will be tennis and pickleball instruction and open court play.
For cyclists, the event features group bike rides for various skill levels, along with safety checks and rentals, the release stated. Loaner bikes and helmets will be available to participants at no cost.
The event will also feature music and self-guided campus tours.

Pumpkin Smash scheduled in St. Charles
The St. Charles Natural Resources Commission will host its annual Pumpkin Smash event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 8, at the St. Charles Public Works Facility, 1405 S. Seventh Ave. in St. Charles.
Participants can toss, smash, roll or simply drop off pumpkins to be composted, organizers said.
Non-biodegradable materials such as candles, plastic stickers and yarn should be removed from the pumpkins to avoid contaminating organic materials collected for composting, according to a press release about the event.
